How to use this calculator
Type your yearly salary in the first box. The calculator instantly shows your equivalent hourly rate, plus weekly, biweekly, and monthly pay. Adjust hours per week and weeks per year if your schedule differs from the default 40-hour week over 52 weeks.
Tip: you can share a link with the numbers pre-filled, for example ?salary=60000 in the URL — the result appears the moment the page opens.
The formula
Hourly rate = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year). For example, $60,000 ÷ (40 × 52) = $28.85 per hour. All figures shown are gross (pre-tax) pay.
Example: 60,000 a year is how much an hour?
At $60,000 a year, working 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, you earn $28.85 per hour, $1,153.85 per week, and $5,000 per month before taxes. If you take 2 unpaid weeks off (50 working weeks), the same salary works out to $30.00 per hour.
FAQ
60,000 a year is how much an hour?
$60,000 a year is $28.85 per hour, based on a standard 40-hour week over 52 weeks ($60,000 ÷ 2,080 hours). It also equals $1,153.85 per week and $5,000 per month before taxes.
How do I convert my salary to an hourly rate?
Divide your annual salary by the total hours you work per year (hours per week × weeks per year). For a standard full-time schedule that is 2,080 hours.
Is the result pre-tax?
Yes. This calculator shows gross pay. Your take-home amount will be lower after federal and state taxes, Social Security, and Medicare deductions.
What if I work unpaid overtime?
Overtime hours increase your real hours worked, which lowers your effective hourly rate. Enter your actual average hours per week to see a more accurate figure.
